Zetech University has officially launched the Zetech Law School (ZLS) and its Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme, marking a significant milestone in advancing innovative legal education in Kenya. The launch ceremony took place at the Technology Park Mang’u Campus, in the University’s Moot Court, and brought together leaders from the judiciary, the legal education sector, and academia.
The event was presided over by Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola, CBS, Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya and President of the Hague-based Residual Special Court for Sierra Leone, who led the unveiling of the commemorative plaque to officially mark the establishment of the law school.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Justice Lenaola commended the university for introducing a forward-looking legal programme anchored in emerging global trends.
“The intersection of law, technology and entrepreneurship is where the future of legal practice lies. I congratulate Zetech Law School for leading the others in developing their focus on such. Institutions that recognise this shift and prepare students accordingly will produce lawyers who are not only competent in the law but also innovative, adaptable and ready to solve real-world challenges,” said Justice Lenaola.
In her remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Alice Njuguna, emphasised that the law school is designed to deliver a modern and responsive legal education that integrates technology and practical skills.
“Zetech Law School has been established with a clear vision of delivering forward-looking legal education. Our curriculum integrates Competency-Based Education and AI-enhanced learning, while embracing the tripartite model of collaboration between academia, industry and government to prepare graduates who are skilled, ethical and responsive to the changing legal landscape,” said Prof. Njuguna.
The launch also brought together key stakeholders in legal education, including representatives from the Council of Legal Education, Kenya School of Law,
Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya), Kituo cha Sheria, law firms and Law Society of Kenya, alongside deans and faculty from law schools across the country.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Council of Legal Education, Prof. Jack Mwimali, noted that the university had undergone a comprehensive accreditation process before being approved to offer the programme.
“The Council of Legal Education undertook a rigorous evaluation process before accrediting Zetech Law School. This included a thorough assessment of the curriculum, faculty capacity, infrastructure and learning resources. We are satisfied that the institution has met the required standards and is well prepared, both academically and resource-wise, to deliver quality legal education,” said Prof. Mwimali.
The Founding Dean of Zetech Law School, Dr. Eric Kibet, highlighted the school’s distinctive niche in Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship, positioning it as a hub for innovative legal training.
“Our niche area on Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship reflects the realities of a rapidly evolving world where legal professionals must understand technology, digital governance and innovation ecosystems. Through initiatives such as our TechSheria Scholarship, we are also committed to nurturing talented but financially disadvantaged students who aspire to pursue legal education,” said Dr. Kibet.
The TechSheria Scholarship Programme is one of the flagship initiatives under the school’s strategic plan, aimed at supporting bright and needy students with a passion for studying law while promoting access and inclusion in legal education.
The launch of the law school signals Zetech University’s growing commitment to expanding professional education and contributing to the development of a new generation of lawyers equipped with technological competence, entrepreneurial thinking and a strong ethical foundation.
