Zetech Law School student lawyers signed induction letters to join the legal profession during a Gavel Ceremony held at the Technology Park, Mang’u Campus, in the moot court. This bold step marked the beginning of their academic careers as law students and was witnessed by the university management board, along with their parents and faculty members.

The Zetech Law School Dean, Dr. Eric Kibet, presided over the Gavel Ceremony and oversaw the reciting of the Law Students’ Code of Honour, a solemn pledge to uphold the principles of honesty, professionalism, ethical conduct, and respect for the rule of law. Each student vowed to commit to academic integrity, respect for peers and faculty, and a lifelong dedication to serving justice with dignity both inside and outside the university.

The Chief Guest, Ms. Christine Kungu, Chairperson of the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA–Kenya), graced the occasion and encouraged students to uphold justice and ethical practice throughout their academic and professional careers. “As you begin this noble journey in the study of law, remain committed to using your legal training to serve society and protect human rights with integrity and courage,” she said.

The gavel symbolises the power bestowed on the students to lead with legal authority and responsibility as student advocates while maintaining the values of justice, fairness, accountability and ethical leadership. According to recent research, notarial studies in law faculties play a significant role in bridging academic learning with the practical skills needed in the legal profession. The 2025 literature review highlights that by integrating notarial education into law programmes, students gain essential knowledge on drafting and authenticating legal documents, understanding procedural requirements, and applying ethical standards in realworld contexts, all of which are critical for professional readiness in areas like property law, corporate agreements, and civil transactions.

Speaking during the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Njenga Munene, emphasised the importance of integrity, service, and excellence as the foundation of a successful legal career. “As you step into the study of law, remember that knowledge alone is not enough; it is how you apply it with fairness, courage, and a

commitment to justice that will define your impact on society. Let this gavel ceremony be the starting point of a journey guided by ethical practice, lifelong learning, and a dedication to uplifting the communities you will serve,” he said.

Zetech Law School continues to set high standards for legal education, nurturing future lawyers who are not only academically competent but also ethically grounded and socially responsible.
